You probably think it is quite a daunting task to build your own shed. Where do you begin? What materials do you need? What kind of wood is best to use? Will you need an specialist tools? It must often feel easier if you go out and buy one of the ready made kits that are available. Whilst there is nothing wrong with a ready made kit, the true sense of achievement and satisfaction will be much greater if you build your own shed.

Having A Solid Plan To Build Your Own Shed

The first this you need is a solid plan.

Where will the shed go?

How much room do you have for a shed?

What will it be used for?

Will it just be for storage or do you plan to work in it?

Would you need a work bench in there?

Answering these question will also help you decide the size. You only want to do this once, so you want to get it right!

Once you have answered these questions and know roughly the size of your shed and it’s usage now would be a great time to refer to a shed building plan. This is a guide that will help you build the shed you want while eliminating all the guess work and stress.

A great guide is My Shed Plans. This will tell you everything you need to know about building your own shed.

Choose from a huge range of fantastic designs, plans and blueprints. You will find loads of options from the novice builder to the more experienced builder.

Complete materials list so that you know exactly what you need to build your shed and what you need to buy

Full explanation of how to build your shed, showing detailed plans and great tips and advice to make the building process simple.

But just imagine once you have built your shed you may get the building bug. Maybe you would like to build a garden bench, or a playhouse, or maybe a picnic table . The list is endless and all of these plans are available when your purchase My Shed Plans.

Now is the perfect time to finalize your shed plans and get start to build your own shed.

So having found out how to build your own shed your want to try and keep it tidy. That can be quite tricky bearing in mind the purpose of the shed, ie to store all your garden and household tools and equipment. Just saying that makes it sound untidy! But that really doesn’t have to be the case.

I don’t know about you but when our garage or shed is all sorted out and nice and tidy I feel really happy. Silly I know, but there is something about being organized and knowing that everything is in its place that makes me feel really happy.

One of the best ways to keep your shed tidy is to purchase a garden tool organizer. these things make the world of difference. They organize all your tools easily and give you much needed floor space.

For example if you take a look at the Rubbermaid 5E28 Deluxe Tool Tower Rack you can store up to 36 tools on this rack. You can store everything from rakes, brooms, snow shovels to gas-powered weed eaters. Front clips allow head-down storage of spades and brooms to simplify access and so that the rack doesn’t get top heavy. The clips also enable easy slide-in storage from the side, rather than having to come in from above and sliding the handle into the slot. The rack has four castors which make it easy to move around your shed or garage rather than having to move tools individually.

A garden tool organizer is definitely what you need if you want to get maximum use out of your new shed. Just think of everything else you will be able to fit in there if you have all your tools organized?

If you find yourself running out of room in your garage or not being able to find your yard tools, then you may want to think about looking at storage sheds. There are many different types to choose from and they are so much better than they used to be. They are no longer the ugly eye sores that they used to be.

Some people think of sheds as the ugly, worn out building on the side of the house that makes loud noises every time they are opened up. The tin sheds can be worse because they creek and make popping sounds when they are used.

The newer sheds have a much improved look. They are also made out of many different materials. Pretty much anything you can imagine can be made into a shed. Just go online and look around and you will be surprised.

Many of the newer sheds have great organization. You can neatly put away your lawn tools so that you can find them easily when you need them. The newer sheds also stand up to even the most brutal temperatures. Most of them can stand up to a lot more wear and tear than the older models did.

For a place to put your tools, some sheds come with sheds and work benches. Some even come with ramps. This can be helpful if you plan on keeping your lawnmower in it. You should consider how you want to use the shed so that you buy it with all of the options that you will use.

When you need extra storage in your garage, a storage shed is a nice way to go. If you place it in your backyard you can place all of your lawn equipment in there and get it out of the way. This clears up a lot of space in the garage and it makes it a lot easier to get to.

An attached garage is a great addition to almost any home, but often it becomes too easy to throw everything not needed at the moment into the garage. Many garages become so packed with storage items that it becomes impossible to use the garage for its intended purpose, parking the cars out of the weather. When this happens, it is time to consider new places to store your goods.

One way that you can free up your garage is by building a garden storage shed. Many municipalities allow homeowners to build a small storage shed under one hundred square feet in their back yards or gardens without having to purchase permits. These sheds make a handy place to store all kinds of things.

A storage shed is the perfect place to store all your lawn care equipment. The shed is an ideal place for hand tools such as shovels and saws or lawn care equipment including lawn mowers and the lawn vacuum.

The shed is also an ideal place to keep seasonally used items such as home space heaters, Christmas decorations or even window air conditioners. These items can be securely stored out of the weather so that they can last longer and so that you still have room to park your car.

When cleaning out the garage you may stumble across items that you do not plan to use again. If you have fitness exercise equipment that has not been used in many years and do not intend to use it again, consider listing the equipment on Craigslist or another classified advertising section. Then you can get rid of excess items and also gain a little cash in the process.

When planning a storage shed, many people find that having doors on either end allows easier access to everything that is stored inside. While you may spend some money building the storage shed, you will find that it saves money in the long run over renting a storage mini warehouse. In just a few months, you will have more than paid the price of the shed through money saved on rent.

When a car is parked in the garage, it is much less likely to be vandalized or stolen. In addition it is protected from the elements. You will find the both the interior and exterior of the vehicle look better and last longer. In the winter you will be able to walk from your car into the house without ever getting out of the car.

Now Spring is around the corner, (I know it doesn’t feel like it sometimes), it is time to start thinking about your garden. I personally love this time of year because it is a time when things start to grow again and you begin to prepare for things to grow over the next few months and over the Summer. Seeing those first few snowdrops or crocus plants peep their heads from under the soil is a lovely feeling and a sight I look forward to every year. Finally Winter is over, and if you are anything like me you will be glad to see that back of it this year!

So in thinking about your garden you might want to tidy it up first, get things organized. To do this you may be thinking of how to build your own shed. It really is not that difficult. Also the great thing about building your own shed is that you can get it just how you want. If you want to build something simple and quickly then you can do that, or if you have a little but more time you can built something more complex, maybe adding a few design features.

The important thing is that you enjoy what you are doing, get what you want out of it and most importantly get a shed that will do everything you want it to and server you well for years to come.

For some great plans to help you build your own shed take a look at diy shed plans.

Learn how to choose the right garden furniture and treat look after it properly. As the garden and patio are becoming increasingly important areas of your house, so too is your garden furniture.

It will be worthwhile doing some research before buying any garden furniture. This research will pay off when you have the right garden furniture that will last a lifetime. Here are some important tips to bear in mind.

The first thing that you will need to decide is whether you want furniture that you can store away over winter or that you can leave outside all year round. If you have made the decision to keep the furniture in the garden throughout the year, it will need to be made from hardwearing materials like hardwood, aluminium or rust free wrought iron.Don’t be tempted to buy cheaper materials as you will only need to replace them which will cost you more in the long run.

It is paramount that you choose the right type of material for the job.Take inspiration from your garden or patio area when choosing the material.Choose a material that will balance out your garden.

Because of it is lightweight, comfortable and beautiful, wood is the best material for garden furniture.Tropical woods tend to be high in natural oils e.g. teak, iroko or courbaril, which make them ideal. These woods will fair well in the winter months as well as through the summer.

Joints should be mortice and tenon, be wary if they are just metal bolts as these have the potential to corrode.Any fittings that are metal should be made from aluminium, brass or stainless steel so that they don’t rust when exposed to the elements.

Make sure the construction is only premium grade teak for our garden furniture, so any knots, cracks and other defects are eliminated before the timber is used to build the furniture.Premium manufacturers dry the wood in a kiln to seal in the moisture and avoid cracks forming.

All joints should have been assembled with glues containing epoxy resin which is weather resistant.

If your teak garden furniture becomes dirty it is easy to clean with warm soapy water and a scrubbing brush which will enable you to restore the beautiful silver grey weathered look.

For more intensive cleaning, you might want to use a pressure hose at no more than 80 bar (1200psi) and no close than 30cm.Add a small amount of bleach to the water once a year. This will stop algae growing on the surface.

If you do spill anything on the furniture, you can simply wipe it off with a light detergent although it will wash off in the rain eventually anyway.

You may notice hairline cracks in the surface when the weather is dry. This is natural and no action needs to be taken as when the moisture in the atmosphere increases the timber will return to its original condition.

Teak oil will enhance the natural finish of the wood, for best results apply it to new furniture.Teak oils vary so make sure you read the instructions first.Unless you want a very black finish, be sure to apply teak oil to dry wood only.

For the jobbing electrician, builder or plumber a well stocked and sturdy tool kit is integral to his profession. For the handyman on the move, a van vault is equally necessary. So you've just treated yourself to a new toolbox and you look like a seasoned professional.Just one question remains - what tools should you put inside it?It doesn't matter whether you have extensive experience in DIY or whether you are a relative novice, there are a few basic tools that everyone should have in their toolboxes.Just follow this simple guide and you'll be kitted out in no time.

Remember that it’s safety first and that you should start by purchasing a pair of goggles.Make sure that you always wear them whenever you are doing a job that could result in bits of solid or liquid material flying into your face.

Next on your tool shopping list should be a solid claw hammer. It's a very versatile tool that is as adept at knocking in nails as it is pulling up floor boards. Also as essential is a set of phillips screwdrivers with varying heads. It is also useful to have a couple of screwdrivers that have shorter handles for those awkward to reach areas.

You will always need various 'gripping' tools for those annoying jobs where you would ideally need 3 hands available. An adjustable wrench and needlenose pliers will prepare you for both delicate and more heavy handed jobs.

Accurate measuring is key so you will need a good long tape measure (preferably at least 12 feet) and a spirit level to make sure all those surfaces are perfectly flat and a set square so that all right angles are accurately measured.

A final essential piece to buy of kit is a screwdriver. It is highly advisable to buy a portable drill so that you aren't restrained by the reach of a mains cable. As the drill's battery is only limited it is wise to have a second battery on charge so that you can simply switch the two when one runs out.
